What does deer resistant or rabbit resistant mean?Updated 2 months ago
When we label a plant as deer resistant or rabbit resistant, it means the plant is less likely to be eaten by these animals. Many have natural defenses, such as fragrant oils or bitter-tasting compounds in their leaves.
However, these traits don’t guarantee your plants won’t be nibbled. Wildlife feeding habits vary by region, season, and environmental conditions. Drought, fire, or nearby construction can all impact what animals choose to eat.
Keep in mind:
New transplants are especially vulnerable and should be protected until established.
Young animals may “taste test” unfamiliar plants — sometimes causing damage once, and never returning.
